Dave Porter – Former Aflac Insurance Salesman

These days, Dave Porter spends most of his time exporting rough and uncut diamonds with Red Rock International Guinea.  However, there isn’t exactly a “gateway job” that one takes to get into the diamond exporting business.  The industry’s workers come from all kinds of diverse backgrounds.

Dave Porter was an insurance salesman with Aflac before he entered into the diamond business.  Porter held his insurance license in Utah and Nevada, making him quite the formidable salesman in the eyes of his competitors.  Porter sold insurance to private individuals as well as companies throughout both of these states for a number of years.

Not only did Dave Porter sell insurance, but he was quite good at it.  Porter won numerous awards during his time with Aflac.  Aflac named him top sales agent in Utah and the western States.  That same year, Dave Porter was ranked the third top-selling Aflac insurance salesman in the nation.  Clearly, Porter was no smalltime insurance salesman!

Dave Porter feels that the skills he learned and developed while selling insurance with Aflac helped prepare him for the work he’s currently doing with Red Rock International Guinea.  Though Porter no longer sells insurance, the basic principles of selling and honest business remain the same no matter what the product is.

Of course, Porter has found that there’s a big learning curve to international selling.  Dave Porter has been challenged by working from his home base in Utah, but dealing with product in West Africa.  Nevertheless, Porter’s welcomed the challenges, which are pushing him in new ways that he’s never experienced before.

Dave Porter doesn’t have any plans of leaving Red Rock International Guinea and going back to the insurance business.  He’s having too much fun working at an international level with some of the world’s most desired products!
